Elon loses a hard fought battle in Men’s Soccer

Sept 23, 2008-

After two mishaps early in the match, the Elon Phoenix Men’s Soccer Team found themselves down 2-0 in Saturday’s match against William & Mary.

13 minutes into the match, William & Mary struck first with a goal from Price Thomas after a beautiful pass from Nathan Belcher.  The Phoenix’s frustrations continued when 4 minutes later, Belcher put one in himself, giving William & Mary a comfortable 2-0 lead.

The Phoenix remained resilient though.  In the 26th minuet, Elon scored off a bullet-shot from junior Steven Kinney.  Kinney received the ball off a free-kick from teammate Justin Wyatt, a junior as well.

After the goal, Elon led a charge with a furious offensive pace, taking 5 shots on goal in the final 45 minutes.  All however were denied by the William & Mary goalkeeper Andrew McAdams.

With the loss, that puts Elon at 2-4-1 on the season.  They will play again this Wednesday night against ranked opponent, the University of North Carolina.  The game will be played at 7 pm in Chapel Hill.
